Spotlight: The Tutoring, Career, and Advisement Services Department, Part II

This series is a collaboration between Title V and various student-serving departments at AU.

Did you know that AU has a department specifically tasked with providing resources for your success in and beyond your academic career?

The Tutoring, Career, and Advisement Services (TCAS) Department, headed by Dr. Claudia Dolinksy, is an excellent resource for many of your needs. From tutoring services to online tutorials about the proper use of APA to helping you land your first job out of college, the TCAS department provides a wealth of information for AU students.

Q: What role do tutors play?

A: Tutors are peers who offer fellow students a range of services including help with grammar, oral and written qualifying exams, and presentations. Tutors provide excellent supplemental support for the academic material covered in your courses. While they are not professors themselves, tutors can help you practice your skills or give you tips for better understanding course content and assignments.

Q: How can I access tutoring services?

A: The TCAS Department offers approximately 10 peer tutors who work with both undergraduate and graduate students in LAB 406 from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM. LAB 406 is conveniently located in the same hallway as the student lounge and Rose’s Café.

The most updated tutoring schedule is located on Dr. Dolinsky’s office door, Room 195.  To set up an appointment, please call 305-593-1223, ext. 3135.

Student Success Bonus Tip: Arrive at your tutoring appointment with current course materials like assignments, worksheets, and/or notes. It is also a good idea to attempt your assignments before arrival so that you can work with your tutor on addressing the specific parts that are challenging for you. This allows the tutors to more effectively tailor their assistance to your needs.
