Understanding Tutoring at AU
Q: What role do tutors play?
A: Tutors are trained peer students who provide supplemental academic support. They can assist with grammar, oral and written qualifying exams, presentation preparation, and other academic skills that strengthen your coursework performance.
While tutors are not course instructors, they can help you practice key skills, clarify assignments, and build stronger understanding of course expectations. Tutoring is designed to complement your learning and help you succeed more effectively in your classes.
How to Access Tutoring Services
Q: How can I access tutoring services?
A: The TCAS Department offers approximately 10 peer tutors who work with both undergraduate and graduate students in LAB 406 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. LAB 406 is conveniently located in the same hallway as the student lounge and Rose’s Café.
The most up-to-date tutoring schedule is posted on Dr. Dolinsky’s office door (Room 195). To set up an appointment, please call 305-593-1223, ext. 3135.
Student Success Bonus Tip
Arrive at your tutoring appointment with your current course materials, such as assignments, worksheets, and notes. It is also helpful to attempt the assignment before your session so you can focus with your tutor on the specific areas that are most challenging. This helps tutors tailor their support more effectively to your needs.
