Albizu Clinic-Mayagüez (MYZ)

The Albizu Clinic, at Mayagüez, is the on-campus training clinic that serves both as a clinical practicum site for students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as internship site for doctoral candidates. In order to provide mental health services, the clinic has been certified since 2015 by the Puerto Rico Department of Health and accredited in 2016 by the “Oficina de Calidad de la Administración de Servicios de Salud y Contra la Adicción” (ASSMCA). The site provides culturally sensitive psychological services to the greater Mayagüez community area and adjacent municipalities. The clinic serves the needs of participants (clients) in a broad spectrum of clinical areas. It offers evidence-based services to the entire community, such as individual, group, family, and couples’ therapy, as well as psychometric, psychoeducational, and psychological evaluations.

Therapy

Individual Psychotherapy

Individual therapy sessions are offered for children, adolescents, and adults. A mental health professional will seek to improve your quality of life by helping you deal with personal, behavioral, academic, or emotional problems, as well as any other situation that may provoke emotional distress.

Couples and Family Therapy

A mental health professional will help a couple and family work through any problems and emotional conflicts that are affecting them. The objective is to tend to the needs of each family member and to find solutions together in order to minimize tension and improve couple or family interactions.

Group Therapy

During these sessions, the group will work together to identify and focus on specific issues and concerns that provoke emotional distress. Our goal is to increase our participants’ support network and to help them manage their problems collectively.

Specialized Evaluations

The clinic administers specialized tests, such as psychometric, psychoeducational, psychological, and neuropsychological evaluations, to explore cognitive ability, learning problems, memory problems, personality, and emotional difficulties.
