Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

Albizu University’s (AU) Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice is designed to develop students’ knowledge in the field of criminology and provide a practical framework for the application of forensic techniques in crime-related scenarios. The purpose of the program is to prepare culturally sensitive practitioners to identify the precursors to criminal behavior, engage in ethical forensic practice, and reduce recidivism rates among ex-offenders.

Highlights

  • Students will identify the biological, social, and emotional precursors to criminal behaviors and crimes. This bachelor’s degree provides criminal justice training in a professional atmosphere, with up-to-date research and practical experiences that students will be able to apply in their future professions. Our program will instill the skills, attitudes, and values necessary for students to be successful in forensic work.

To be admitted to the program, students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students applying with a GPA lower than 2.0 will be granted provisional acceptance into the degree program, contingent upon the completion of a provisional period in the program with a GPA of 2.0 or above. In such cases, students will meet on a monthly basis with their academic advisor to assess their academic progress.

Once the Admissions Office receives all the required documentation and the interview process is completed, academic program advisors will contact successful candidates to provide program direction and guidance.

  1. A duly completed and signed application form accompanied by the appropriate fee, submitted prior to the established deadlines.
  2. Official transcripts from all previous undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. The following criteria must be met:
    • Previous academic work that includes courses in statistics, research methods, developmental psychology, and abnormal psychology. This coursework requirement will be waived if the applicant scores 600 or higher on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Psychology Test.
    • Transcripts that show any degree(s) received.
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
        • Applicants enrolled institutions of higher education outside the United States whose standards of training are substantially equivalent to the standards of training of institutions in the United States will also be considered.
  1. Three (3) letters of recommendation from current or past professional contacts (in accordance with the AU format).
  2. A current curriculum vitae that summarizes applicants’ credentials.
  3. A personal statement describing applicants’ professional goals and academic objectives.
