Current Title & Duties

As a full-time faculty member, Dr. Santana teaches courses in the neuropsychology track and also serves as an adjunct professor for the Ph.D. Program in Human Services (neurolearning specialization courses). Dr. Santana also serves as the liaison between Albizu University and the Institutional Review Board, BRANY. This includes the supervision of the IRB training course for Faculty and students and the review and approval of small and large grant requests. Dr. Santana assists students in dissertations and doctoral projects. Dr. Santana is also the Faculty Advisor of the Pediatric Neuropsychology Club.

Biography

Dr. Santana is a former Adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts where he taught postgraduate courses on neuropsychology. He was a full professor In the Master in Neuropsychology at the Autonomous University of Morelos State in Mexico. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at several universities around the world such as Ponce School of Medicine, in Puerto Rico, Nacional Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Benemerita Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico, University “Rovira i Virgili” in Tarragona, Spain, University Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in Lima, Peru, Autonomous University of Bucaramanga (UNAB), Bucaramanga, Colombia, Iberoamerican University in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic among others.

Besides that, Dr. Santana has been an international lecturer on topics such as neurodevelopmental disorders, neuropsychology of epilepsy, gerontology, and others.

Dr. Santana worked for the Miami Dade County Public School System performing evaluations for students with traumatic brain injuries.

Research / Research Interests

Dr. Santana has presented at multiple conferences in different countries.  His research interests center around the study of neuropsychological aspects of epilepsy, learning disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Santana has developed two neuropsychological tests (the Neuropsychological Laterality test and the Test of Neuropsychological Potential)

Academics, Education, Certifications

Dr. Santana completed his undergraduate studies with a concentration in Clinical Psychology at the University of Havana, Cuba, in 1981. He received his Ph.D. in Neuropsychology in the department founded by the renowned professor Alexander Luria at Moscow State University “M.B. Lomonosov” in 1991.

He later concluded a multicultural clinical internship at Brightside School Street Institute in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is a licensed psychologist in the State of Massachusetts (inactive status) and in the State of Florida (active status).

Dr. Santana is certified in Quality Matters Peer Reviewer and recently obtained a certification in Neuroleadership.

Recent Publications

Dr. Santana has authored five books and several publications in his field of neuropsychology.
