Biography
Dr. Minoshka D. Liquet is a clinical psychologist, faculty member, and Director of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) at Universidad Albizu (UA), Mayagüez Campus. She has been part of the Clinical Psy.D. Program since its early development in 2015 and has played an active role in its growth, academic development, clinical training initiatives, and accreditation efforts.
Dr. Liquet has more than 12 years of experience in higher education, clinical teaching, supervision, program development, research, and direct patient care. Among the courses she has taught are Psychotherapy Techniques, Self-Care Seminar, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She also provides clinical supervision to doctoral students and has been closely involved in the development of specialized clinical training opportunities within the program.
For more than 10 years, Dr. Liquet coordinated the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program, a specialized clinical training rotation offered through Universidad Albizu’s training clinic. Her work contributed to the early development and implementation of DBT training and services in Puerto Rico, particularly in the areas of emotion dysregulation, high-risk behaviors, self-injury, and complex clinical presentations.
Dr. Liquet has formal training and certification in multiple evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Behavioral Activation, and Psychological First Aid (PFA). Her areas of clinical expertise include trauma, emotion regulation, high-risk behaviors, personality disorders, and evidence-based psychotherapy.
In addition to her clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Liquet has developed substantial experience in higher education administration, accreditation, program evaluation, clinical training, and doctoral education. She played an active leadership role in the accreditation process that culminated in the American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation of Universidad Albizu’s Mayagüez Clinical Psy.D. Program in 2024. Her professional interests include strengthening doctoral training, clinical supervision, student development, accreditation, and the creation of sustainable training models that promote professional competence and student success.
Dr. Liquet is particularly committed to student success and mentorship. Her approach to academic leadership emphasizes accessibility, flexibility, collaboration, problem solving, effectiveness, and maintaining high academic and clinical standards while supporting students throughout their professional development.
She also participates in national and international professional forums in psychology and mental health and has delivered presentations at professional and academic conferences, including the Interamerican Congress of Psychology. Her professional activities include scholarly presentations, program development, clinical training, supervision, and participation in initiatives focused on the advancement of psychology education and mental health services in Puerto Rico.
Dr. Liquet is also the mother of two sons, whom she considers central to her life and a major source of purpose and inspiration. She values the integration of family, professional excellence, mentorship, and service. She welcomes opportunities for collaboration in research, mentorship, academic advising, clinical training, program development, and higher education initiatives.
Research / Research Interests
Dr. Liquet’s research interests include Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), with particular emphasis on the effectiveness and implementation of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) among Puerto Rican populations. Her broader research interests include self-injurious and high-risk behaviors, trauma, emotion regulation, psychotherapy effectiveness, program development and evaluation, positive discipline, student wellbeing, and clinical training.
Her scholarly interests also extend to the development and evaluation of mental health interventions, particularly those designed to address the needs of underserved or culturally diverse populations. She has participated in research initiatives examining mental health outcomes in Puerto Rico and has an ongoing interest in strengthening the integration of research, clinical practice, and evidence-based training.
Dr. Liquet is open to collaborative research projects, interdisciplinary partnerships, mentorship opportunities, and initiatives focused on psychotherapy outcomes, clinical education, student development, and mental health services.
Academics, Education, Certifications
Dr. Liquet earned her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology in 2012 from Ponce School of Medicine, currently known as Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU).
Following completion of her doctoral training, she began private clinical practice in Lajas, Puerto Rico, in 2012 and later relocated her practice to Mayagüez. Her professional experience encompasses direct patient care, psychotherapy, clinical supervision, doctoral education, faculty development, academic administration, program development, accreditation, and research.
Dr. Liquet joined the Clinical Psy.D. Program at Universidad Albizu’s Mayagüez Campus during the program’s early development in 2015. Since that time, she has served in multiple academic, clinical, and leadership capacities and currently serves as Program Director.
Her advanced clinical training includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Behavioral Activation, Psychological First Aid (PFA), trauma treatment, emotion regulation interventions, and clinical supervision.
Her continuing professional development also reflects a strong interest in emerging areas of clinical psychology, evidence-based treatments, innovative approaches to behavioral health, and the advancement of doctoral education and professional training.

Dr. Liquet has contributed to book chapters, professional and community-oriented publications, scholarly presentations, and research initiatives related to clinical psychology, mental health, psychotherapy, and professional training.
Her scholarly activities have included presentations at local, national, and international professional forums, as well as participation in research and academic initiatives focused on psychotherapy effectiveness, mental health in Puerto Rico, clinical training, accreditation, and higher education.
Her current professional and scholarly interests continue to emphasize the integration of clinical practice, research, education, mentorship, and program development to strengthen the preparation of future psychologists and expand access to high-quality mental health services.
