Counseling
The Master of Science in Counseling program is designed to prepare ethical, culturally responsive, and clinically competent professional counselors who are equipped to serve diverse populations across a variety of mental health and community settings. Students develop a strong professional counseling identity grounded in evidence-based practice, ethical comportment, and advocacy for client wellness.
The MS in Counseling is offered fully online and is available to students nationwide. The program is delivered through Albizu University's Miami Campus and serves students across the United States through a fully asynchronous format with required synchronous components.
The M.S. in Counseling is an online, graduate-level degree program at Albizu University-Miami, requiring 60 credit hours. The program offers a Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization. The degree typically takes full-time students two to three years to complete.
Experiential and Clinical Training
The program integrates experiential learning throughout the curriculum, including skills-based training, live supervision, counseling demonstrations, role-play activities, and supervised clinical field experiences. Students complete Practicum and Internship experiences designed to support the development of professional counseling competencies in real-world settings. All students participate in synchronous skills observation and assessment at multiple points throughout the program prior to Practicum.
Professional Dispositions and Counselor Development
Our program emphasizes the development of professional dispositions essential to effective counseling practice, including ethical behavior, self-awareness, cultural humility, professionalism, interpersonal competence, and advocacy for diverse client populations.
Federal Licensing Disclosure
Graduates of the M.S. in Counseling program are prepared to pursue licensure as Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC) in Florida, or equivalent credentials in other states. Licensure requirements vary by state. As per CFR 668.14(b)(32)(ii), Albizu University provides resources and guidance to assist students in identifying and fulfilling licensure requirements for states outside Florida. Faculty are available to support students with planning to meet additional educational or experiential requirements specific to their home states or territories.

Minimum Degree Requirements
The University has established the following requisites, which must be completed before the Master’s Degree is awarded:
1. A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
2. No more than 2 (two) standing grades of “C” in the major concentration area.
3. Satisfactory completion of all required academic courses.
4. Satisfactory completion of the required hours of practicum, if applicable.
5. Good standing in the Program, i.e., no disciplinary action pending or academic or practicum probation.
To earn the MS in Counseling, students must complete a minimum of 60 semester credit hours, including:
- Completion of all required foundational and specialty coursework
- Successful completion of a comprehensive examination
- Completion of supervised Practicum (100 hours minimum)
- Completion of supervised Internship (600 hours minimum, including 240 direct client contact hours)
- Maintenance of satisfactory academic standing and professional dispositions throughout the program
