The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Language and Behavioral Disorders is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program designed to prepare students for careers and advanced study in communication sciences, behavioral analysis, and psychology. This program combines foundational knowledge in general education, in-depth study of human behavior and communication disorders, and applied skills in clinical and research settings.
The Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) has verified the ABA courses offered at Albizu University toward the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) examination.
Additionally, graduates will be eligible to apply for a state license as a speech-language pathology assistant through the Florida Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology. Program Goals
The objective of the B.S. in Language and Behavioral Disorders at Albizu University is to provide students with a foundation in both speech-language pathology (SLP) and applied behavior analysis (ABA). Through this comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum, students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals with communication and behavioral challenges. It provides a foundation for students to pursue their passion in SLP and/or ABA by applying for a master’s degree in speech-language pathology or psychology.

Admission Requirements
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) or equivalent of 2.0 or higher to be considered for admission from a high school, high school equivalent, and/or accredited institution of higher education in the United States and its territories.
Documentation Requirements:
- A completed and signed application form accompanied by the appropriate fee, within the established deadline. (See the Tuition and Fees Policy.)
- Official transcripts from all high schools, colleges, universities, or other post-secondary educational institutions.
International students applying for admission must submit their academic records to the appropriate agencies for verification of their equivalency to coursework offered in the United States. They must demonstrate the ability to meet the cost of their educational needs without financial assistance from the University.
Albizu University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the Commission for Independent Education of the Florida Department of Education.
The curriculum combines foundation courses, major concentration courses and specialized tracks. Examples include:
· Foundation courses such as English Composition, Public Speaking, Mathematics, Introduction to Sociology and Critical Thinking.
· Core courses include Introduction to Communication Disorders, Introduction to Phonetics, Clinical Processes of the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, Functional Principles of Behavioral Analysis, and Ethical & Professional Conduct in Behavioral Analysis.
· Coursework in psychology, interdisciplinary studies, and a capstone project or internship in Speech-Language Pathology or Applied Behavioral Analysis round out this interdisciplinary curriculum.
Additionally, the ABA courses offered at Albizu University meet the behavior-analytic coursework requirement to take the Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) examination.
Furthermore, graduates completing this program will also be eligible to apply for a state license as a speech-language pathology assistant through the Florida Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology. Faculty are expected to participate in research‑based projects, develop academic presentations for targeted audiences, and attend or present at discipline‑related conferences. They are also encouraged to maintain membership in relevant professional organizations.
Most instructors in Speech‑Language Pathology, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Psychology hold doctoral degrees and bring extensive experience from a wide range of community settings, including private practice, pediatric clinics, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, correctional facilities, and public and private schools.
Instructional methods include faculty‑guided lectures, collaborative study groups, and activities that incorporate scholarly reading and writing, among other evidence‑based approaches.
The BS in Language and Behavioral Disorders is offered on-ground.
