Título actual y deberes

As a clinical educational coordinator, Professor Castro is responsible for the placement and coordination of all clinical experiences from Semesters 1-6 for the graduate student clinicians and for providing support and guidance to the clinical supervisors to achieve the aims and learning outcomes for the program.

Biografía

Professor Castro has more than 12 years of experience working as a Speech Language Pathologist. Her clinical expertise has been in acute, subacute, inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, and outpatient rehabilitation centers.

Professor Castro's clinical experience is with the adult and geriatric population with a focus on Dysphagia, Aphasia, neuro-cognitive disorders, speech sound disorders (Apraxia and Dysarthria), and Stroke/TBI rehabilitation.
She has conducted speech-language and swallowing diagnostic evaluations and therapy to patients with diseases and disorders including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, Aphasia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease, Dementia, Tracheotomy, Cerebrovascular accident, Traumatic brain injury, and voice disorders.

Prior to becoming an SLP, Professor Castro worked as an exceptional student education teacher for over 6 years. Her expertise was in the area of learning disabilities and Dyslexia.

Académicos, Educación, Certificaciones

Professor Castro received her Bachelor's of Science in Exceptional Student Education from Florida International University in 2003. She then received her Master's of Speech Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University in 2009.

Professor Castro obtained the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) and completed her CFY at St. Catherine's Rehabilitation Hospital in North Miami.

She is certified in Vital Stim therapy, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, Myofascial Release for Swallowing, and Speak Out/Loud Crowd.
