As a full-time Faculty member, Dr. Crosby is responsible for developing and/or teaching graduate-level courses in speech-language pathology. Additionally, Dr. Crosby mentors and advises graduate-level students, participates in committees, and engages in scholarly research. As the Undergraduate Coordinator of the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) minor, Dr. Crosby provides academic leadership to the SLPA faculty, course evaluation, advising, and coordination to support the learning outcomes of the students.

Biografía

Dr. Crosby is a board certified SLP with extensive experience treating clients of all ages in private practice, skilled nursing facilities, and school settings (face to face and via telepractice). The bulk of her clinical experience is treating school-age children and young adults with speech and language disorders, including those with complex communication needs who require augmentative and alternative communication.

As an expert in the field of speech-language pathology, Dr. Crosby has served as an expert reviewer in the area of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), is an active peer reviewer in the Assistive Technology Outcomes & Benefits Journal and has been an invited Strand Committee member for AAC at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) National Convention. Recently, Dr. Crosby has been invited to participate as a committee member in ASHA’s SLPA Model Education Plan to assist in developing an ASHA-approved model academic plan for students seeking the SLPA certificate.

Fostering growth in clinical, academic, and research development in her students is a fundamental component of each online course. In her commitment to fostering student growth, Dr. Crosby has mentored undergraduate and graduate-level students in academic writing, data collection, research methodology, submitting, and presenting proposals at national conferences.

Dr. Crosby is a member of several professional organizations, such as ASHA, The Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, ASHA Special Interest Group 12 (AAC), Selective Mutism Association, Autism Society of Greater Orlando, and TASH.
Lastly, Dr. Crosby has had extensive experience developing and teaching engaging online undergraduate and graduate-level courses in normal language development, autism spectrum disorders, AAC, speech sound disorders, childhood language disorders, reading and writing disorders, early intervention, and professional issues in speech-language pathology.

Dr. Crosby has presented at state and national conferences including the ASHA Annual National Convention, Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) Annual Conference, ASHA Schools Connect Annual Convention, The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) Annual Conference, and the University of Florida CARD Summer Literacy Institute.

Her areas of research/research interests include autism certificate programs in higher education, evidence-based practice for developing and teaching online courses in higher education, parent-implemented interventions through online instruction, and teaching caregivers practical strategies to increase receptive and expressive language using AAC in daily routines. Other areas of interest include evidence-based practice in the assessment and treatment of selective mutism, autism spectrum disorders, and interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Crosby has presented her research and clinical strategies at state and national conferences.

Dr. Crosby earned her undergraduate degree (BS) in communication sciences and disorders and Master of Arts in speech-language pathology from the University of Cincinnati. She then earned a doctoral degree in Education (EdD) from Nova Southeastern University, with a primary concentration in speech-language pathology, minor in autism spectrum disorders, and dissertation focus in augmentative and alternative communication.

Dr. Crosby holds several clinical and academic certifications including ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), Implementing the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), Social Communication Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports (SCERTS) Model, Online Educator Enrichment, and Applying the Quality Matters Rubric. Her commitment to lifelong learning is evident as Dr. Crosby consistently earns the ASHA Award for Continuing Education (ACE) each year. In addition, she has been nominated for the Cohen Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Crosby is also cross-licensed through the Department of Health in Speech-Language Pathology in Florida, California, and Louisiana. Furthermore, she holds an Ancillary Certificate through the Board of Education in the state of Louisiana.
