Título actual y deberes
Dr. Pérez joined the Undergraduate Psychology Program as adjunct faculty in Spring 2015 and transitioned to Assistant Professor in 2023. During his tenure at the university, he has taught various psychology courses, synchronous (face-to-face and hybrid) and asynchronous (fully online). He primarily teaches for Research Methodology, Human Sexuality, Interviewing Techniques, among other elective courses. In addition, he is a primary advisor for the Undergraduate Psychology Program.
Biografía
Dr. Pérez shares a triad passion for education, health informatics, and mental health counseling. Before starting in academia, he worked in healthcare informatics for over 17 years. He has been a clinical associate at private practice. Most of his work has been proving mental health services, and counseling with children, adolescents, couples, and families working through life transitions by applying tailored interventions that include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, humanistic, and systemic approaches like Solution Focused.
Investigación / Intereses de investigación
Dr. Pérez research interest include psychology of motivation in first generation higher education learners and remote worker engagement and leadership style influence.
Académicos, Educación, Certificaciones
Dr. Pérez holds an Associate of Arts (AA) in Psychology from Miami Dade College, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from Florida International University, a Master’s in Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling from Albizu University, and a Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Leadership and Innovation from St. Thomas University. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and Qualified Clinical Supervisor for marriage and family therapy (MFT) and mental health counseling (MHC) interns in the State of Florida. In addition, he holds National Certified Counselor (NCC) certification. He is an active member of the Florida Mental Health Counseling Association (FMHCA) and American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA).
Publicaciones Recientes
In 2021 he published his dissertation focused on remote working employee engagement.
