Interim Chancellor

As a full-time faculty member, Dr. Dean’s responsibilities include completing with diligence and efficiency the functions and responsibilities as Associate Director of the Undergraduate Psychology (with new program development), and Education Programs; and Albizu University (AU) Institutional Academic Board, Search Committee, Advisory Committee Human Services, Academic Committee, Active Learning Inter-Campus Committee, Student Retention, Distance Learning Board, and aligned work with AU departments, respectively. Also, demonstrating and complying with ethical standards and program elevation, further supervisory responsibilities include: adjunct course design/work, producing written/oral reports, advising students, student referrals, professional guidelines, ongoing critical tasks relative to online/hybrid, synchronous/asynchronous and higher education academia, retention and growth, enrollment, registration, scheduling, financial aid/finance; and teambuilding with all stakeholders, to increase and retain student population and commencing successful alumnus professionals, and other duties as required by Presidency and Chancellor.

Biografía

As AU 2019 Commencement Ceremony Mistress of Ceremonies at the James L. Knight Center, Miami, Dr. Dean, treasures that experience with our beloved University! Currently Interim Associate Director, Bachelor of Science Psychology and Education Programs, Dr. Dean started the AU journey in 2011 with the Undergraduate and Masters Education Programs as adjunct professor, teaching courses in Cultural studies, Exceptional Student Education, Learning Disabled, Reading, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages. In 2013 at the onset of the Ph.D. in Human Services, she began as an adjunct professor teaching Research, History, and Policy; and worked on the Advisory Board. In 2017, Dr. Dean became fulltime as Assistant Professor with Education, Criminal Justice & Undergraduate Psychology Programs where she interviewed and worked to register students and advised them in the provision/requirements of studies and major-specific courses for the program; supervising interns; and instructing, scheduling, designing academic courses. Retiring in 2014 as District Director, Title I Administration, Miami Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), successful job roles as administrator, program director, supervisor, trainer, reading leader, curriculum support specialist, teacher, and registrar, were during her thirty-five-year career. Membership in organizations: Intl Honor Society Kappa Delta Pi, AU Alpha Epsilon Nu Chapter; Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc.; Ben McNamee, Inc 501 (C)3 Non-Profit No-Hazing No-Bullying Corporation; Association of Teacher Educator; and Learning Forward FL.

Dr. Dean believes in always “sharpening your tools”, as such, she has attended a plethora of workshops and trainings; further she has presented in multiple workshops and conferences, inclusive of: Miami Dade College, A New Level of Thinking…For a Better Me; St. Thomas University School of Leadership Connecting the Dots…Students’ Immigration Issues; Nova Southeastern University Graduate Teacher Education Program, the National Association of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., and Kappa Delta Pi International Educational Honor Society. She has also been featured in several AU videos that have been produced for the Institution: Albizu University’s Values on Diversity with President Pons; and Albizu University Celebrates Black History Month!

Dr. Dean graduated in 1997 with honors from Union Institute & University with a Doctor of Philosophy degree, and a specialization in Educational Leadership. Her Project Demonstrating Excellence (dissertation) was entitled: Implementing a Staff Development Program to Improve Language Arts Instruction. She maintains the State of Florida Department of Education, Professional Educator’s Certificate in Educational Leadership (all Levels), Elementary Education (Grades 1 – 6), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement and Reading (Grades K-12).
