Campus

Our Campus

San Juan Campus, established in 1966, is part of the history of the walled city of Old San Juan. Albizu University’s (AU) San Juan Campus was the first Hispanic higher-education institution in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to be accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Currently, the facilities have modern classrooms, a community clinic focused on mental health and speech and language pathology services, a library, a scientific research center, and a modern computer lab.

Campus Benefits

Studying at Albizu is a unique experience, especially because we have a solid commitment to our students, offering them many reasons to become professionals dedicated to service and research. Among our benefits, you may consider:

  1. Academic excellence
    • Albizu University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).
    • Its clinical psychology programs are accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and it is the first Puerto Rican university to receive a 10-year accreditation period.
    • According to the National Science Foundation, Albizu University is ranked among the top universities in the United States that grant doctorates to the Hispanic population.
    • It features an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree that is unique to Puerto Rico, focusing on psychology or speech and language therapy.
    • According to an independent student survey, the Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology program was selected as the best program in Florida and is ranked third in the southeast region of the United States.
    • San Juan’s PhD program in clinical psychology received the Example of Excellence Award in Education in 2011, being the only institution in Puerto Rico to receive this award.
    • The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) accredits the Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology program.
  2. The purpose of services to the community and practical training on campus: Albizu Clinic and its external practice centers provide opportunities for students to refine their acquired skills, while offering mental health and speech and language services to the general public under the supervision of licensed psychologists and pathologists.
  3. The faculty is formed by professors with master’s and doctoral degrees with vast experience in their areas and local and international recognition.
  4. Comfort and location: The Old San Juan campus is found in the center of the Puerto Rican capital and is surrounded by historic buildings, museums, restaurants, squares, and a variety of businesses, making student life enjoyable and interesting.
  5. Diversity: Albizu University’s programs promote an environment that respects and fosters diversity.
  6. Affordability: More than 75 percent of the students receive financial aid, either through scholarships, federal loans, or working on-campus (through work and study programs).
  7. Practical experience: Our curricula incorporate practical experiences aligned with the skills learned in the classroom. For example, the interdisciplinary bachelor’s degrees include an international experience via a supervised trip.

Registrar’s Office

Our mission is to ensure that all enrollment and retention processes comply with AU’s academic policies as well as with institutional norms established by state and federal regulations. We also safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of all academic records.

We provide students with a variety of services during their studies. These include maintaining academic records, issuing official academic transcripts, verifying grade reports, and graduation eligibility and coordinating class registration.

The Registrar’s Office at the San Juan Campus is found in Room 211 on the second floor of the main building. The office’s phone number is (787) 725-6500, ext. 1574.

The following steps must be completed before a degree is conferred:

  1. The student must submit an application for graduation and pay the corresponding fee. (Please see the Tuition and Fees section of this catalog for more information.) The fee is nonrefundable and is required to process the application. This fee is also mandatory regardless of the candidate’s attendance to the commencement ceremony.
  2. The Registrar’s Office reviews the student’s record to ensure that it is complete.
  3. Upon recommendation of the faculty and the chancellor, the Office of the President reviews the student’s record and requests approval for degree conferment from the Board of Trustees. The conferment of academic degrees is the sole province of the Board of Trustees.
  4. The Office of the President forwards a copy of the final approval to the Registrar’s Office.
  5. Once the letter of approval is received, the Registrar’s Office sends the student a letter stating the date of degree conferment and the date the diploma will be available for pick-up.
