MIAMI - Scott W. Allen, Ph.D., ABPP is a licensed clinical psychologist, Board Certified in Police Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and has been the Senior Staff Police Psychologist for the Miami-Dade Police Department for 31 years.
Presently, he is the Supervisor of the Psychological Services Section of MDPD as well as the Supervisor for the Special Response Team Crisis and Hostage Negotiator Team. He is also a consultant to several Federal agencies, in the areas of post-trauma intervention and hostage negotiation.
Dr. Allen is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and received his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an internship at the West Haven Veterans Administration Medical Center. He has many publications in the area of law enforcement psychology, especially pertaining to police suicide, hostage/crisis negotiations, post-trauma intervention, and suicide-by-cop.
He is the Past President of Division 18-- Police and Public Safety Psychology Section of the American Psychological Association and is also the Past president of the Council on Police Psychological Services. Dr. Allen is an adjunct faculty member of Nova University, and Florida International University. He also provides clinical supervision for doctoral students at his departmentally-sponsored practicum site at MDPD.
